Grading Procedures for AP World History

Palm Beach County's Grading    A = 90-100      B = 80-89        C = 70-79        D = 60-69        F =0-59

Method:  I use a weighted point system rather than percents for grading purposes. Every piece of work, assignment

or activity has a point value. Exams, Essay's and Projects coverts percents to points. Participating in class

discussions, completed homework and projects have different point totals depending on their difficulty for

completion. Time as well as the length of the assignment is considered in determining point value.

(You can convert to percent by dividing the total number of points given to an

assignment and the points actually earned for that assignment. For example: total points for a

project is 50 pts, and the student earns 46, the percent grade would be 92% (46/50).

Essays:  There are three types of essay assignments (DBQ's, Comparison and Change over time).

Essays are to be between 500 and 1600 words.

Each essay will be graded using the AP’s 9 point rubric scale. (Grade equivalents are listed below)

(Core rubrics specific to the three various essays will be used)

               - Conversion (Grade Equivalent) to percent

                   1st Semester ( 9 -97%     8 - 94%  7-91%      6 - 87%    5 - 84%     4 - 81%     3 -77%      2 -74%      1 -71%)

                   2nd Semester (9 -98%    8 - 93%   7-88%      6 - 83%    5 - 78%     4 - 73%    3 -68%      2 - 63%      1 -58%)

                - These per cents will be convert to points

Projects:  Every project will be graded by a specific rubric designed for that particular project. The rubrics will be

given out to the students before the assignment is to be undertaken. A specific time frame for the

assignment will also be established to set the time frame of the project.  Each rubric can vary from 50 to

                 200 points
