COURSE
OBJECTIVES
-
This class will prepare you to
pass the
National AP U. S. History Exam.
-
All students in this class will take the National AP U. S. History Exam.
-
This class is for students desiring a college-level survey history class.
Passing
the AP Exam will give you college credit hours.
-
It
requires seriously committed students who are willing to work far above the
level required in a
honor’s
high school history class.
-
I expect
every one in this class to attend
all
the time,
to come prepared
all
the time,
to participate
all
the time,
in a constructive and cooperative manner, and to shoulder the
responsibility for the class work in a mature and diligent way without
whining and complaining. This is a difficult course with potentially great
benefits.
STUDENT MATERIALS (See
Binder instructions on my main web page)
-
Black or Blue Pens or pencil, 3 ring binder for papers, notebook paper,
your textbook. On days when tests are given, bring a pencil. I will
not
provide pencils for student use.
-
Textbook: One will be checked out to each student. You may use that text
without marking in it.
-
The text will be supplemented with primary and secondary source documents,
time lines, maps, and other class materials. Please get a notebook in which
to keep these documents.
-
I strongly recommend
that all AP history
students purchase “United
States History” Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination
as supplementary material. This Study guide also covers everything you need
to know about the AP Exam. It is an Amsco Publication. I will provide a
phone number or e-mail address to order this book.

approved list.
-

extra credit must be in one week before the end of the quarter. There
will be no exceptions to this deadline.
Grade Scale
A = 90-100 B = 80-89
C = 70-79 D = 60-69
F =0-5
Grading Policy - I use a
weighted point system rather than percents for grading purposes. Every piece
of work, assignment or
activity has a point value. Participating in class discussions, completed
homework and projects have different
point totals depending on their difficulty for completion. Time as well as
the length of the assignment is
considered in determining point value. (You can convert to percent by
dividing the total number of points given to an
assignment and the points actually earned for that assignment. For example: total points for a
project is 50 pts, and the student earns
46, the percent grade would be 92%
(46/50).
FAMILY
EDUCATION RIGHTS & PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)
Please know that
ongoing critical evaluation by peers, which may include exchanging drafts of
papers, will be used to enhance the educational process. Final assessment of
student work is my job as the teacher of the class. It will also be necessary
to post informational lists and grades by students' ID numbers. Student
privacy will be respected when providing all confidential information.
